On July 20, 1964 US president Lyndon B. Johnson penned this letter in support of the work of the League. Printed on White House stationery, it reads:
July 20, 1964
No book ever written has made as great a contribution to peace, right thinking and good citizenship as the Bible. The Pocket Testament League enjoys great prestige for its contribution to international understanding and good will through world-wide Scripture distribution.
My attention has been directed to the unusual program now being conducted by the Pocket Testament League in South America, where you have distributed nearly two million portions of the Holy Scriptures in seven Latin American countries in the last three years. I commend you for this and for all your past endeavors in bringing the word of God to all the world's peoples.
Sincerely, Lyndon B. Johnson
