US president Richard Nixon penned this letter in support of the work of the League. The date is unknown. Printed on White House stationery, it reads:
There is no adequate measure for the ever-present influence of the Holy Bible in my life and in the lives of my family.
A repository of the highest ideals known to man, the Bible is a special source of comfort for those in public life. It lends inspiration as we seek the well-being of those we serve, and provides encouragement as we face the challenges of trying times. Whenever we act to advance human progress or enhance the dignity and opportunity of man, we are strengthened in our cause by the timeless wisdom of the sacred Scriptures, and guided by truths that have uplifted generations of men and women.
Those who perpetuate the principles of the Bible sow the seeds of courage, compassion, charity and peace -- and by so doing, help make the world a better place in which to live.
Signed, Richard Nixon
