Although this speaks of Samuel in the near future it is also a prophesy of the coming of Jesus and his new priesthood in which we all share. The doom of the brothers resulting from their sinfulness is a warning to us, but the prophecy is an encouragement for us as well. Hannah's song of praise also prefigures Mary's Magnificat at the coming of Jesus. Likewise with the sequence of events that happened with Samuel. All these insights are interesting, but above all they fill me with joy at the love, power and truth of the Lord. Praise and thank you Lord !

Hannah had been thought to be drunk, but after she told Eli, the priest that she wasn't but was earnestly praying for a son, he accepted this and blessed her, praying that her prayers would be answered. Hannah was now at rest that the Lord had heard her prayers. This is how we must be, after having asked for the Lord's help, answering our needs, we can rest knowing that he will have heard us and will answer our prayers in due course. In Hannah's situation her prayers were asked after a while and she gave birth to Samuel. Like her, sooner or later out prayers will be answered and we will rejoice and give thanks to the Lord for this.
