2 Corinthians 6:2
For he says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.
When I share the Gospel, sometimes the person tells me: "I hear what you're saying. I think it's right and true, but I'm just not ready right now." Unfortunately, people can't just come to the Lord whenever they think they're ready. That's not how it works. It's not like buying a car or a new winter coat. Jesus said (John 6:44): "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them." So there is an acceptable time of salvation -- and we each need to respond when the Spirit of the Lord speaks to us. And it doesn't come at a more convenient time or following additional consideration. (Acts 24:25: "As Paul talked about righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, 'That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.'")
In our passage today, Paul gives us the appropriate time period and actual day for Salvation. When is it? Right now! Today. Not tomorrow, next week or month. Not after someone retires, stops drinking, or any other thing they think needs to be done first. In Genesis 6:3, the Lord said, "My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal." Therefore, God will not pull on the strings of a person's heart indefinitely. If the answer is "No", there will come a time when He will let their decision stand for eternity. Does anyone really want to take that risk?
Now is the time for each of us to be saved. Not just born again, but also saved from whatever is holding us back. What interrupts your walk of faith? Our passage today is not just for new believers, it is for each of us to apply every day. Now is the time of God's favor, now is the day to be saved from whatever ails us. Will you go to Him now?
