“"No Unnecessary Strain Required"”

2 Corinthians 8:13

Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality.

Thoughts for Today:

A few weekends ago my grandsons, Conner and Christian, were spending the weekend with us. During one of their conversations, they had a debate about my strength -- which ended with Christian telling his brother, "I bet Grandpa could lift me up with one finger." I said, "Now hold on a second, I might be able to lift you with one arm, but not one finger." Christian weighs seventy pounds, so I couldn't expect only one aspect of my body (my finger) to lift him. However, with my fingers working in unity with other parts of my hand, wrist, forearm, bicep, shoulders, back and legs -- I could probably manage it -- at least for a few seconds.

It's the same point Paul makes in our passage today, Christ combines different aspects of His body (the church) to meet the needs of His people. And by sharing the burden with one another, no one part of the body is unnecessarily strained. The point is to get involved in some way. To not be a spectator, but actually be a part of the solution and a small or large component of God's overall blessing.

Questions to Ponder:

Hebrews 13:16: "And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." How can you share the burdens of those less fortunate? Are you a spectator or actively involved in meeting the needs of God's people? What ministry can you partner with today?
