“"Blessing and Honor by Giving"”

2 Corinthians 9:9

As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.”

Thoughts for Today:

Previously, Paul said that the Lord brought abundant prosperity to the cheerful giver so that God's people would have the financial (or other means) to do good. Our passage today follows this same thought with a supporting quote from Psalms 112:9a.

Scripture is full of many accounts of the incredible blessings God has placed upon the lives of those who love and serve Him. Look at Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, David, Solomon, and even Job. This list also includes the people referred to in Psalms 112. They are also cheerful givers -- and as a continuation of verse 9 reveals -- God places great value on their faithfulness: "They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor, their righteousness endures forever; their horn will be lifted high in honor." It's something to really think deeply about: God remembers, honors, and richly blesses those who cheerfully give. Does that sound like you?

Questions to Ponder:

Does our passage today describe your attitude toward giving? What can you do to "freely scatter your gifts to the poor"? God does not want us to place our families in financial jeopardy; however, each of us can do something (no matter how small it may seem) to help others. What will you do today?
