“"Doing What We're Supposed To Do"”

Thoughts for Today:

In our passage today, Paul is basically saying, "We simply do what we're supposed to do -- so the reason for our boasting is to bring glory to God -- not to ourselves." And that is the same place our glory should be focused as well. On the Lord, not on ourselves or each other.

As believers, one day we will all stand before the Lord to receive our commendation. Not condemnation or criticism, but reward. Our passage today can also be taken as a subtle warning to us as we look at the ministry of others: Don't criticize anyone before we find out what their personal calling is from the Lord.

A person might not be gifted in public speaking, leadership, teaching, visitation or any other highly visible area of church work. However, that doesn't mean they are not serving in exactly the way God has called them. I think the key is to find out the giftedness of those around us, and then help them to do a better job of serving Him through our understanding and support -- not critique. It is not our job to sit in judgment of anyone who might not be doing everything we think they should do.

Questions to Ponder:

What are you supposed to be doing? Are you involved? Who is getting the credit? Is it the Lord? How can your efforts in ministry bring glory to God? Is there someone who you have become critical of that you shouldn't?
