2 Corinthians 11:15
It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.
Satan will go whichever direction people choose. If someone wants to be dark, angry, sinister, devious, self-serving, and otherwise devilish -- he'll meet them there. On the other hand, if a person chooses to be principled, upstanding, moral, ethical, and always deciding upon the higher road, then he'll meet them there as well. Satan will say, "You don't have to admit you're a sinner and need a Savior -- all that is necessary is to be morally correct."
With this in mind, Paul tells us it should then come as no surprise if his servants also masquerade as servants of light. Therefore, we shouldn't be deceived when false teachers seem to live such righteous lives, when their stance on issues seems to be so moral, and when they emphasize the importance of family and separation from the world. The question is: How do we keep from being led astray by people whose lives seem to exemplify Christ and His teaching -- by what they add to the Gospel.
In John 6:28-29, the question was asked of Jesus: "What must we do to do the works God requires?" He answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent." The one thing God requires of us is simply to believe. Anyone who adds anything more than placing all of our hope, trust and belief in Him is on dangerous ground and subject to being judged according to human efforts. Unfortunately, even the best attempt by humanity will fall woefully short of the perfection God requires and "their end will be what their actions deserve."
Have you added anything to the message of Grace? Have you begun to make your faith more complex than the simple message you first heard? Is your joy growing or retreating?
