“"A Spiritual Structure"”

Thoughts for Today:

In the Old Testament, God brought His Spirit upon certain people in order to anoint them for service. This included prophets who were chosen and inspired by Him to write the Scriptures. However, this was only a temporary situation as God prepared the world for the coming of Jesus. In the New Testament, the Lord lives among and within His people. And through the miracle of renewal, rebirth and regeneration, we become His permanent "home". The "household of God" (to which we belong) is built on this early foundation and continues to use the teaching of the apostles and prophets. For example, in Acts 2:42, we read of the early church: "They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer."

In our passage today, Paul describes Jesus as "the chief cornerstone". So it is upon Him and by Him that everyone and everything is brought into complete balance and perfect alignment. It serves as a great metaphor for how the modern church is to function and operate. The church is an ever-growing body of believers -- a temple inhabited by Him. However, it is not a physical building. From God's perspective, the church is to be a constantly growing and living spiritual-structure. (2 Corinthians 6:16: "For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: 'I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.'")

Questions to Ponder:

With all the insistent and constant pressure of the world, it is sometimes easy to forget that we are God's temples -- both individually and corporately as the church. With this perspective in mind, how will you change your approach to today's "To Do List"? Have you sought His will? Is His pleasure at the top of your priorities?
