“"Revelation of Scripture"”

Ephesians 3:2-3

Surely you have heard about the administration of God’s grace that was given to me for you that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly....

Thoughts for Today:

The Greek word "OIKONNMIA" is translated by the NIV as "administration". According to Vine's Expository Dictionary: "it primarily signifies the management of a household or of household affairs, then the management or administration of the property of others, and so a stewardship." In the context of our passage today, Paul is expressing the responsibility he has been given by to Lord to give out (dispense and administrate) an understanding of God's grace toward humanity.

It is critical for us to realize that the truth Paul presents today is not of his own design or creation -- they are the words given to him by the Lord ("the mystery made known by revelation"). So on one hand, it is important for him to not take personal credit for the insight, and at the same time emphasize the great importance of these truths.

When Paul says, "as I have already written,” he confirms for us that we should study his previous written work as well. Why? Would it be for his personal glory or justification of his standing in the church? Of course not. It was a simply a re-statement of the obligation all believers have to study the divine revelation of Scripture. Paul was highly aware that he was being used as God's instrument of communication with humanity.

Questions to Ponder:

As we read and study God's message to humanity through the Apostle Paul, what have you heard the Lord speaking to you personally about? If you are unsure, ask Him now. Will you respond? We come to know God as we obey Him. Will you?
