“"Extending Our Vision"”

Thoughts for Today:

One of the reasons I enjoy sharing the Gospel so much in foreign lands is it allows me to gain a glimpse of God's international vision for His church. In fact, I think it would help a lot of people in the United States to experience in person how greatly and uniquely the Lord is moving in various people groups around the world. Many would be surprised, amazed, and even transformed by the passion and courage of our foreign brothers and sisters in Christ.

Sometimes when our focus is narrow -- upon our own church and community -- we lose the global aspect of God's work. We (Christians as a whole) "are heirs together with Israel" and "sharers together in God's promise in Christ." And it doesn't matter whether we're American, Chinese, Vietnamese, Costa Rican, or Ethiopian. We are all God's children and members of one body.

It is indeed a mystery how just two weeks ago -- a fifty-eight year old man from Dana Point, California, could find fellowship, comfort, encouragement and worship by joining a body of believers at a small church in northern Costa Rica. Jesus Christ is the great neutralizer of social, economic, language, race, sex, nationality or any other perceived dissimilarity. And when we are "in the promise in Christ", all believers are not only united to Him, but also to each other. It is truly amazing!

Questions to Ponder:

It is not always possible for each of us to leave our homes to visit other countries. We have many restrictions -- some are related to health, finances, employment, school or family responsibilities. However, we can take an interest in what God is doing in other parts of our country and the world. We can support in prayer and if possible with our finances the work many are doing for the kingdom. Will you extend your vision?
