“"The Perpetuity of God's Will"”

Thoughts for Today:

The last few verses of Chapter Three are some of the most glorious statements in all of Scripture. As we ponder the vast meaning and implications of these verses, we cannot leave out the importance of the church in God's plan. Scripture tells us Christ is the church and when we are functioning members of His body we are in Him.

In fact, it wouldn't be a bad idea to inscribe our passage today above the entrances to our churches. Why? Because it represents the perpetuity of God's will. In other words, our current generation is not to be the only one. Every subsequent generation of believers should overflow our buildings, communities and nations as they continue to worship God in spirit and truth with Christ as the head. It is God's intention that His glory will be reflected "in the church and in Christ throughout all generations, forever and ever!"

Unfortunately, a very unsettling trend is beginning in our country -- which is much the same as we've seen in Europe. Incredible buildings have been built (supposedly to glorify God), yet stand empty. No longer are the seats filled and voices raised in praise of God. Instead they have become monuments -- architectural and historic museums -- of the faith of preceding generations. How does it happen? A disconnection from the power of God and His eternal purpose occurs when we allow humanity to lead the church rather than Jesus Christ.

Questions to Ponder:

One of our concerns should be to not let the church we attend become another empty building a generation or two from now. How do we prevent this from occurring? The key phrase is "in the church and in Christ." Provided our focus is on Him and serving according to His will, He then will add to our numbers and grow His church. Are you a server or a spectator? What can you do to join God in His work at your church? Will you?
