“Remembering Our First Convert”

Romans 16:5b

Greet my dear friend Epenetus, who was the first convert to Christ in the province of Asia.

Thoughts for Today:

I have been blessed to lead several people into a saving relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. However, few have been as emotional as when my oldest son Ryan accepted Jesus as his personal Savior.

It happened years ago on a Sunday afternoon as we were driving home from a weekend retreat in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains. We were talking about some of the topics the speaker had discussed. Suddenly, Ryan was overcome with emotion. I asked, "Are you alright?" Through tears he shook his head, "No, I'm not. Dad -- how do I accept Jesus?" I answered, "It's simple, all you have to do is ask." He said, "Then, I want to right now." I pulled off the side of the road, and there on our knees -- amidst the dirt and rocks -- Ryan accepted Jesus. It was a beautiful experience. He was the first of my children to become a Christian.

In our passage today, Paul also remembers his first convert to Christianity -- his dear friend Epenetus. I'll bet you remember your first convert as well. Nothing is more gratifying in life, than having the opportunity to lead someone we deeply care about into a saving relationship with Jesus.

Questions to Ponder:

Does someone you love still not know Jesus? Have you offered the Gospel message? It's never too late. If you've tried and been rejected -- try again -- there are eternal consequences. There are many ways to share your faith in easy, non-threatening ways -- go to www.pocketpower.org to find out how.
