2 Corinthians 1:18-19
But as surely as God is faithful, our message to you is not ?Yes? and ?No.? For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by me and Silas and Timothy, was not ?Yes? and ?No,? but in him it has always been ?Yes.?
Many people are confused by our passage today. How can God's answer in Him always be, "Yes"? I read a story once that helps to illustrate how God works in our prayer life and as we make our desires known to Him:
A little boy had to climb and cross a very steep hill to get to church on the other side each Sunday. It was a difficult, arduous and dangerous journey. Yet, the boy looked forward to the fellowship and teaching he found each week with God's people. So he made the trek faithfully. One of the things he learned was that God says if you have enough faith you can ask Him to remove a mountain and He will do it. In childlike faith, the boy began to pray for the hill to be removed so he could more easily attend church. A few weeks later he came across some people who were working on a construction project at the foot of the hill -- the same place where he began his hike each Sunday. He asked what they were building, and they said they were building another church -- a mission of the church on the other side of the hill -- so people on this side could more easily attend.
Did God remove the hill? No. Did He say "Yes" to the little boy's prayer? Of course He did. God's answer and solution is not always the same that we ask, but it is according to His will and for our good. Unfortunately, if we are not careful and watchful, we won't see His "Yes" when it comes.
Has God answered your prayers? Have you asked according to His will? Have you been watchful and vigilant? In which ways has God provided answers that are not exactly what you've asked? Do you trust in the goodness of God? Will you continue to do so?
